Two thousand years ago the Romans built the first settlement here, and The City of London has been making history ever since. Saxons and Vikings, Normans, Tudors, the English Civil War, all have left their mark. One of the world’s greatest cities, and the best way to see it is by walking around.
The area inside the original Roman walls which is often known as “The Square Mile” or simply “The City” is the UK’s main centre for business and finance. This is where you’ll find the Bank of England, the Stock Exchange and many of London’s great institutions. It’s a dynamic modern city, with cutting edge architecture being carefully positioned around ancient historical buildings and the churches of Sir Christopher Wren. Around every corner, down every winding alley, is a story or historical character waiting to be discovered. Tales of fire, plague, treachery and death, all have their place here as well as joyful pageantry and eccentric ceremonies.
Your Guide to Walking Tours in the City of London
I trained as a City of London Green Badge Guide because I love to do walking tours. I wanted to share that with other people. The Green Badge is awarded by the Institute of tourist Guiding. I’m also a member of 
the City of London Guide Lecturers Association and lead official City of London tours. These tours run every day and start from the City Information Centre near St Paul’s Cathedral. Richard West8 April 2024Mike gave us a very informative tour of the City Highlights as we walked from St Paul's Cathedral to The Monument. He took us to several well-known landmarks but also many places well off the beaten track and provided us with very interesting information. Mike is a skilled teacher and storyteller and was able to weave in so many facets of the City of London’s history as we walked. We left with a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural significance of the City of London. We are grateful.
Oliver Schneidewind7 March 2024I was in London for a weekend with my girlfriend and our tour guide Mike took us on the Creators of London tour. It was a very interesting experience and we both really enjoyed it. Our guide knew how to tell an interesting or exciting story about each building. Normally you don't pay much attention to it, but during the tour we realized how many buildings there are that have an animal depicted on them. Spotting the animals before Mike showed them to you felt like a little treasure hunt, especially with the small figures and the ones that are difficult to see, we were thrilled when we discovered them. We stood in front of other buildings and were almost surprised when Mike showed us that something was hidden there.
